Beth Ellen McNamara is a doctor with the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. She graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and worked as a general practitioner at River Forest Animal Hospital and at Family Pet Animal Hospital, both located in the Chicago area. In 2008, Dr. McNamara began her journey towards becoming a rehabilitation practitioner when her own dog began to have orthopedic problems that did not improve with surgery and pharmaceutical medicine alone. She underwent the rigorous certification program with the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and in 2015, became the director of rehabilitation at Chicago Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (now MedVet Chicago.) As a complement to the physical medicine of rehabilitation, she became certified in acupuncture in 2016 through CuraCore Vet in Fort Collins, CO.
Her professional interests include non-pharmaceutical pain management, medical acupuncture, and the special rehabilitation needs of amputees and pediatric patients.
Dr McNamara recently moved back to Maine from Chicago to be closer to her family. In her free time, she enjoys fiber arts, tap and ballroom dancing, cooking with her husband Frank, playing with her dog Rosie and snuggle time time with her two cats Etta and Eleanor.
The needs of each patient are unique and each treatment plan is customized to your pet’s abilities and recovery rate. Treatment plans may include a mix of interventional and/or regenerative medicine, and traditional physiotherapy. As a partner in your pet’s recovery, our medical team will provide you with detailed guidance for care, including exercises to be performed at home.
